This course will look at the importance of managing concrete subfloor moisture to prevent wood flooring issues and will cover some flooring issues related to excess moisture, from the subfloor to the flooring itself.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify common wood flooring problems related to excess moisture
  • Understand the composition of concrete subfloors, including common additives and surface treatments, and the effects these components have on moisture content during the chemical curing phase and the subsequent drying phase, as well as upon the slab’s ultimate moisture permeability and receptivity to common adhesive bonds
  • Understand the limitations and advantages of the primary methods of testing for moisture content, and identify common thresholds or guidelines for wood flooring installations
  • Describe the advantages of using a two part epoxy moisture suppression coating to reduce the moisture transfer rate for most concrete subfloors by 75% - 90%
  • Identify key overall factors for success in reducing or managing concrete subfloor moisture in order to reduce the risk of wood flooring issues
