This course will provide an overview of effective concrete waterproofing technologies and how they improve the durability and lifespan of structures. It also includes a discussion on water penetration, system selection, membrane protection, and various types of waterproofing materials including sheet-applied, fluid-applied, and cementitious waterproofing.

  • Explain the relationship between porosity and permeability and describe the mechanics by which liquid water and water vapor are transported through concrete structures and how this contributes to concrete deterioration
  • Differentiate between dampproofing, waterproofing and vaporproofing.
  • Differentiate between positive and negative side waterproofing and list the common characteristics of these waterproofing methods.
  • Identify the various types of waterproofing systems and differentiate between them.
