Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is an extremely versatile resilient flooring product that is commonly used both residentially and commercially, specifically in educational, healthcare, and corporate settings where long lasting performance is key. This course will explore the performance benefits, design features, and applications for luxury vinyl tile where durability, low maintenance, versatility, sustainability, and affordability are desired or required.

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate sustainable luxury vinyl tile’s composition and manufacturing process, including the use of recycled polyvinyl chloride, certified virgin material, and post-industrial scrap.
  • Evaluate performance testing of luxury vinyl tile, including slip resistance, chemical resistance, and fire resistance, as well as third-party certifications such as FloorScore, Cradle-to-Cradle, and Living Building Challenge.
  • Analyze luxury vinyl tile’s contribution to the green building movement, including meeting the strict indoor air quality emissions criteria of FloorScore, LEED v4, BREEAM, WELL Building Standard, California Department of Public Health’s CAL 1350 standard, and SCS-EC10.3-2014 Indoor Air Quality Product Performance Standard for Building Interiors.
  • Illustrate applications where you can specify non-porous, low-VOC LVT and feel confident that there aren't repercussions for the environment or occupant health, including schools and healthcare, where a low-VOC, hygienic, anti-allergen, chemical resistant, and durable finish with positive acoustic attributes is desired.
